The School of History at Queen Mary is a friendly, diverse and exciting community of scholars, which stretches from first year undergraduates to senior professors.
We welcome all applications to join that community and will assess each application on its individual merits.
In the following pages, you can find out more about what we teach, what we are looking for and our admissions requirements. There is some guidance on how to write a personal statement, what to expect at an admissions interview and some information on our new scheme of unconditional offers.
We know that you will have many excellent universities to choose from, so we hope that these pages will help you in reaching your decision. But if you have any questions, or if there is anything else we can help with, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
You can read our prospectus online below, or you can download the our prospectus as a PDF to read later.
All applications for undergraduate degrees are made through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service, UCAS.
If you are currently at school or sixth form college in the UK, your teachers will guide you through the application process.
If you are applying from outside the UK, please contact our International Office for guidance on UCAS, the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service.
You can find out more about our admissions policy, including information for mature students, disabled applicants, and those taking other qualifications, from our Admissions Office.
For undergraduate applicants taking A-levels, our standard offer is ABB (not including General Studies or Critical Thinking).
For applicants taking the International Baccalaureate, our standard offer is 32 points with at least 5 in higher-level History.
For applicants taking the Access to Higher Education qualification, our standard offer is a pass with 60 credits, including 45 at Level Three of which 15 credits must be at Distinction and 15 credits at Merit or higher. This must include at least 6 Level Three credits in History at Distinction.
When we receive your application, we will assess it on the basis of your personal statement, reference, and grades (achieved and predicted). We aim to look at the form as a whole and take into account all the information provided. We do not prioritise one section over another.
We may ask you to visit us on one of our interview days, so that we can find out more about your historical interests and why you want to come to Queen Mary. The interview will be very informal, with no 'trick questions or ‘hidden agendas’. You will have a chance to meet some of students and to ask any questions that you might have. More information about our interviews is available here.
If your application is successful, we will offer you either an unconditional place (for those who have already achieved the necessary grades), or a place conditional on your achievement in your upcoming exams.
We are always keen to hear from potential applicants. To discuss future or current applications, please contact us:
