History Degree Schemes at Queen Mary
Due to the wide range of courses the Department of History, and the flexible course unit system, we can meet the needs of those students looking for a traditional grounding in British, European and American history, those attracted to innovative fields such as film history, and those who want a combination of newer and established approaches.
Last year over 80 per cent of our undergraduate finalists achieve a 2.1 or above. We were also rated in the top 10 Departments nationally in the National Student Satisfaction Survey. We are proud of our broad approach to the study of history: our intellectual diversity is a key feature of our research community.
Some courses (for example, Cabinet and Premiership, The Left in Western Europe and The Kennedy Years) are excellent examples of traditional political history. Others are concerned with the history of art and architecture, or combine history with film or English literature.
By following cultural and intellectual themes you could investigate topics such as the portrayal of the face in Western art and medicine, the representation of war in contemporary British popular culture or the music, criminality and corruption of Jazz Age America.
