Dr Jon Davis has been at Queen Mary on and off since 1993 and is the Director of the Mile End Group.

He is now lecturer of the undergraduate course 'Cabinet, Premiership & the Conduct of British Central Government Since 1945' and co-teacher of the MA course 'New Labour in Government' with John Rentoul of The Independent on Sunday, having previously taught 'The Blair Government' and 'The Hidden Wiring of British Central Government' at MA level.

Dr Davis is also in the process of writing 'The Blair-Brown Coalition' with John Rentoul for Oxford University Press.

He achieved his PhD, advised by Professor Peter Hennessy (and sponsored by the Cabinet Office), in 2007 and his thesis was published in October of that year by Hambledon Continuum as 'Prime Ministers and Whitehall, 1960-74'. He has written for The Observer and The Independent and appeared on BBC News, Channel 4 News, Radio 4 and Radio 5 Live.


Since leaving school in 1991, Dr Davis worked a total of five years as an investment banker including stints at JP Morgan and Paribas, and spent the year 2000 in the Cabinet Office's Modernising Government Secretariat.
