Applying for a Research degree

Entry qualifications are usually a good first or upper-second class degree in History or a closely related field, or a recognised equivalent from an accredited overseas institution. The Department of History also usually requires successful applicants to have a Masters level qualification. Relevant experience is also taken into account.
Successful applicants for postgraduate research in the Department of History will be matched to a member of staff who will provide expert supervision as well as pastoral support for the student throughout the course of their research, writing-up and eventual thesis submission.

- Research proposal (500-1500 words)

There is no deadline for the receipt of postgraduate research applications and students may commence their research at various points throughout the academic year. However, applicants hoping to apply for a Queen Mary studentship and UK and EU applicants applying for AHRC funding should do so by 21 February 2011.
