Masters (MA) degrees at Queen Mary

The Department of History at Queen Mary is an excellent institution at which to undertake a Masters degree. The programmes are primarily designed to prepare students for higher degrees in research and help them identify possible areas of major research. However, all courses can be taken as free-standing programmes and are intended to be of interest and relevance to those who:

  • wish to spend an extra year enhancing their CV and taking advantage of the excellent tuition one will receive as an MA student
  • want to take more time in considering their career options. The department enjoys links with both government and industry which is unique for a department of the arts and humanities. As a postgraduate here you are likely to be exposed to potential avenues of future employment and ideas about where the skills you and knowledge you acquire can take you
  • are teachers or other professionals wanting to return to academic life to gain an advanced knowledge of their subject utilising our staff’s specialist expertise in their field

The Department of History at Queen Mary currently has approximately thirty MA students from a wide variety of backgrounds and age groups across the programmes. The Department enjoys a rich research culture underpinned by our outstanding staff, many of whom are leaders in their field.

Current Queen Mary Undergraduates from the UK and EU applying for entry to MA courses in September 2011 will be eligible for a £1000 discount on fees if they are self-funding.
